Scenes of the Absurd is a stop motion short film following a young girl to another world as she goes to rescue her Elephant. During her time in the other world she encounters the Jester, who entertains her with three performances.
I produced this film in my third year of university. After discovering what stop motion films got through, I took charge and volunteered myself to produce both. With myself as producer, the core team also consisted of two directors, one head of puppetry, two heads of 3D, and we took on many freelancers. The team had 15 weeks to produce this short film from pre-production to the final edit. With three puppets and three sets, the production process posed some challenges.
As I was working with two creative directors, we had numerous meetings thus we were all on the same page. Moreover, as both directors were thoroughly involved in stop motion previously, it eliminated any misunderstanding of the pipeline. This made negotiating certain aspects a lot easier. The narrative evolved after each presentation as we took on constructive feedback from the lectuers.
